We have decided that every so often we will be pitching some future game theories and designs to see what you guys think about our ideas and to get you guys thinking about the future of the franchise and what turns it could take. The first game I will describe is the most likely game to actually be come part of the franchise. A game that takes place sometime between the events of Skyward Sword and the Minish Cap would make the most sense so that is where I will place the game. It's called the Legend of Zelda: Fallen Angels.
I will break this game down by its specific parts one by one so lets start with time period.
Time (timeline): As stated before this game would take place sometime after the events of Skyward Sword, but not immediately after, due to the nature of the Triforce When someone of a pure heart touches the Triforce it will send the land into a time of prosperity and wealth, so for at least a time the land would be a peace. I place this game a hundred or so years after Skyward sword in the age known as the era of chaos. Very little is known of this time period which leads a lot up to speculation, but what we do know is that evil events occur during this time period which lead to the creation of Hyrule and the sealing f the sacred realm.
Setting (place): According to the Hyrule Historia, the Kingdom of Hyrule is not established until after the era of chaos so the setting of this game cannot technically be called Hyrule. After the events of Skyward Sword we assume that most of the sky islands will return to earth along with their citizens. Assuming this fact, I believe the game will center around a very open style world with an evolved city of Skyloft in the center. Skyloft will be much larger and more in depth, due to assumed population growth, and it will also have a very different feel. My idea of the new Skyloft will have a dangerous inner city feel. It will be large and beautiful, but still dark and depressing at the same time, especially at night. The city will be wrapped with crime and even a few enemies. It will be a place that even link needs to be careful in, watching for dark corners, and everyday pick-pocketers. The world overall will be huge, open, and extremely mysterious. It will be geared toward exploration, especially with an adventure behind every corner. The over world will have a twilight princess times 3 feel, with more incentive toward exploration.
Style: Well most likely the game will continue on with the style of Skyward Sword, due to its close proximity to the game (and the fact that Nintendo has established that in several press conferences). Even though it will have this style I would more like a darker style, like a mixture between Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, and the E3 demo. This style would help with the overall tone of the game.
Villain: This is a place that is extremely up for grabs and debate. If you read my discussion into the possibilities of the Triforce, the villain could literally be anything in any form, but if you also read my Triforce discussion the villain does not need the Triforce at all, in fact the holder of the Triforce of Power could be a good guy in the end. For these purposes though I will give the Triforce of power to someone of evil intentions. Since no one in Skyward Sword really appears that power hungry to take on a piece of the Triforce, we will give this piece to a completely new character. This villain will be contrived of pure evil, but he will not be filled with the obvious muscles or power of Ganondorf or Demise. For this villain think of Zant, before he takes off his mask and you realize h is just a whining baby, mixed with the calculating intelligence of Ganondorf from Wind Waker. For the sake of this post I will call the villain Lucian.
Basic Plot: After years of prosperity and growth for Hylians and the new citizens of the over world a dark cloud begins to grow in the form of a series of dark and unexplained deaths, disasters, and accidents. Through a series of assassination and fixed elections, Lucian rises to Political power in the now fallen Skyloft and the surrounding small towns and villages. After Lucian gains enough authority he begins to research his history and the object known as the Triforce, and n doing so realizes he himself has the Triforce of Power. Lucian realizes for him to become the god he desires he must gain all pieces of the Triforce. In realizing the Triforce must be held within a child of Hylian descent he orders the systematic capturing and murder of all children of Hylian descent throughout the city. When the killings start, in a latch ditch effort to save her son, Links mother sticks her baby boy on the back of the cart from the Milk farm outside the city. When the milk ranch owner finds the child he decides to raise the baby as his own son, along with biological daughter Zelda. Link and Zelda grow into their teenage years together as siblings and best friends, neither knowing the true power within them. Throughout this time Lucian has continued on with his crazed search for the other two pieces of the Triforce. Eventually Lucian's search takes him to the Ranch where his minions discover Zelda and immediately capture her. As Link returns from the field he sees the monsters capturing Link and attempts to save her, but while running toward her, is knocked unconscious by his adopted father. Link wakes up in a fury, but is quickly quelled by his father who tells him of the true circumstances of his birth. His father knows he cannot stop Link from going after Zelda, tells Link the place of his true family and gives Link the only thing that his father found with the abandoned child, a green hat. Link sneaks into the city and too his old house to find it ransacked and abandoned. On further inspection Link discovers a hidden door to a secret basement. In the basement he finds a suit of green armor along with a shield and his apparent family sword. Next to all this he finds a note form his father saying, "For when you need it, the courage lives inside you." From this point on Link makes it his mission to discover what happened to his family, save Zelda, and stop the evils of Lucian.
Importance: This game would end with the sealing of the sacred realm and most likely the sealing of the Triforce within, leading to the events of Ocarina of Time. Along with the sealing of the Sacred Realm I would make this game the back story for the creation of the Ocarina of Time, and in this game would have this instrument as a pivotal part of the game.
Problems: Obviously this entire game is speculation, but admittedly the basic ideas of the game are plausible. The villain is completely made up and could be filled with any character that Nintendo desires. Also since this game takes place only a few generations after Skyward Sword it is quite plausible that Link and Zelda are related, making my assumed romantic ideas quite disturbing. Also the game would never be called Fallen Angels due to its religious assumptions, but I thought it sounded cool.
As said before the entirety of this game is speculation but I hope that this game did help all of our readers to start thinking of the wide range of possibilities in this ever growing franchise. If you have any questions about this game, ideas for a different future Zelda title, or have any problems with my ideas please comment below so we can have a discussion. Sorry its been so long, but be prepared for my next post which will be the history of Ganon, as desired by our Contest winner. Thanks for reading! - BF
